Dr. Laura Sobieck, D.O., ABIHM, is a triple board-certified Osteopathic physician. She is board-certified in Family Medicine, Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Integrative Holistic Medicine. She is the founder and medical director of San Diego Osteopathic Center for Well-being.
Dr. Sobieck grew up in Minnesota, and began her migration westward as an undergraduate. She completed her Bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Montana, where she received training in Motivational Interviewing. After college, Dr. Sobieck moved back to Minnesota, and worked two jobs using her psychology degree while applying to medical schools. As a behavior aide for the Courage Center’s Structured Day Program, she used behavior modification techniques to treat traumatic brain injury clients. In the evenings, she also worked as a psychiatric technician at Fairview Medical Center, on the Adolescent Chemical Dependency Unit. It was during this time that Dr. Sobieck learned many of the skills she continues to use today in her integrative health approach to help her patients change harmful health behaviors.
Dr. Sobieck moved to the west coast in 2003, when she was accepted to Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA. It was here that she got her first taste of the California lifestyle while completing her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Sobieck completed her internship year at USC-California Hospital in downtown Los Angeles. She completed her post-graduate training (residency) in Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Downey Regional Medical Center in Downey, CA. Dr. Sobieck also completed Masters in Public Health coursework at UCLA. She is currently working on her Masters’ project building a sustainable medical community in Rishikesh, India, through her role as Public Health Specialist for Amrit Davaa World Health and in partnership with Parmarth Niketan Ashram. In May 2014, Dr. Sobieck became a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.
Dr. Sobieck enjoys an active lifestyle: biking, hiking, and practicing yoga. She is a 200hr RYT and certified yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance. Dr. Sobieck incorporates her knowledge of yoga and Ayurveda into her medical practice. She enjoys cooking, often reinventing healthier versions of traditional recipes. Dr. Sobieck also enjoys traveling both within the United States, and internationally.
